This is the stuff I wish were in the show much, much earlier. This backstory would have given the show some much-needed backbone earlier instead of just making us ambivalent/semi curious about Joseph. Definitely an episode I can finally show to my dad (a Blade Runner fan who stopped at the second episode) and be fairly confident he'll be interested all the way through. Finally sorta addresses Joseph's shooting of Elle earlier then suddenly patching her up, although that was still a very awkward plot beat.
