The first thing I must point out is that several online sources (and the book's own 'About the Author' section) claim that these books reconcile the differences between Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and Blade Runner. This is just completely false and baffling why anyone would think that. They're clearly sequels to Blade Runner, but with some unused elements of DADOES thrown in. Nothing major like Mercerism, radioactive dust, specials, or animal ownership. Just minor stuff like the U.N., the Salander 3, and a character named Isidore (who is now separate from Sebastian).

But the thing I dislike most about the book is what it does to several characters from the film. Gaff unceremoniously dies, Bryant dies in the first chapter, Sebastian is no longer dead, Rachael does absolutely nothing in this book except sleep and die (unless I'm forgetting something; I'm barely into my re-read so far), and we will get to Pris when I get there in my re-read. But just to make it clear, I absolutely hate what Jeter did to Pris. Just look at her Jeter article and you'll see what I mean.

If I haven't made my point yet of how disinterested I am in these novels, I've continued reading The Edge of Human for the first time in weeks. And during those weeks, I read two completely different books from start to finish and started another. So this is probably going to take me longer to get through these than I expected.

I'm really confused by the implication this book makes that most replicants are part of a line of replicants with the same appearance. Like, Roy Batty is actually one of many Roy Battys based upon a templant named Roy Batty. Wouldn't this make such replicants extremely easy to detect? Holden resorts to VK testing Leon. But these books say Leon is one of many Leons. Wouldn't Holden - a highly-skilled Blade Runner - immediately recognize a Leon replicant? Because surely Blade Runners, of all people, would know what the templant-based replicants would look like. So weird.

No real thoughts to add (finally got over 100 pages in!) but at this rate, it's going to take me a very, very long time to get the Jeter articles done. Might even prioritize the point-and-click game since that's actually good, entertaining, and hasn't been contradicted out of canon. And I did get Dick's The Golden Man collection (which contains The Little Black Box) and We Can Build You for my birthday a few months ago, so maybe expect stuff from those soon(ish)?

Thinking about writing some Jeter articles just from the info we already have on here just so that we at least have something to show. Though I did just read through the synopsis we have for Eye and Talon, which left me very confused, but I'm not sure I'll have any better understanding of it when I actually do read the book. I will continue my thoughts here as I do make it through, just to have somewhere to express my disappointment (or praise, if that ever actually happens) with these books. Very sad that Jeter's contributions were the end of the BR series for nearly two decades, even though they fell into obscurity.

New Year's resolution: Finish these damned books.
