Plot[]
In Tokyo, 2015, Mead is confronted by an armed gang, sustaining a knife wound to her leg before her partner Stix arrives and eliminates her attackers. The pair go to a takoyaki stand, where they are approached by Sayo, a young woman requesting help in finding her sister, Miyuki. Miyuki, a private investigator, disappeared while on the case. Stix is hesitant to take the case due to potential Yakuza involvement so excuses himself.
Stix goes to the Undercity, where he helps his friend Kaito pass out rations to the area's residents. Meanwhile, Mead goes with Sayo to Miyuki's home. Sayo tells her that their parents have a number of rivals possibly behind recent deaths of their business affiliates, rumored to be carried out by a replicant.
Mead encounters Yagi, a former ally whose actions caused the deaths of several people. Mead is hostile until Yagi points out that he has information that could help save lives. As Mead stands down, Yagi tells him that there are rumors of a new military model replicant prototype created by Cheshire.
Mead speaks to Alura, Miyuki's fiancée, who tells her that Miyuki had been hired by two "official"-looking people with Tyrell Corporation identification. Owed a favor by the Higashi-gumi, Mead goes to them only to find them all slaughtered, with very precise-looking wounds.
