Blade Runner 2099 is an upcoming television limited series produced by Alcon Entertainment in association with Scott Free Productions, Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television.

Production[]

Ridley Scott, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Michael Green, Ben Roberts, Cynthia Yorkin, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, Silka Luisa, Isa Dick Hackett, and Tom Spezialy are executive producing the series, with Luisa also serving as a writer and the showrunner. Spezialy is also to serve as a writer.[1]

The series was greenlit by Amazon Prime Video in September 2022.[2] Production was originally set to begin in Northern Ireland in Spring 2023.[3]

In March 2023, Jeremy Podeswa was announced as the pilot episode's director.[1] However, due to scheduling conflicts, Podeswa was later replaced by Jonathan van Tulleken, who has signed on to direct the series' first two episodes.[4]

Due in part to the Writers Guild of America strike, production was delayed.[5] The series was originally to be filmed in Belfast, Ireland, but it was announced in October 2023 that production would move elsewhere.[6] Production relocated to Prague and Spain,[7] where filming began near the end of June 2024 and is expected to last until December.[8]

Casting[]

In May 2024, Variety reported that actress Michelle Yeoh would portray Olwen, a replicant near the end of her life.[9] The following month, it was reported that Hunter Schafer had been cast[10] as Cora, a fugitive who assumes an identity to help secure her brother's future.[8]

In July, Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben were announced as series regulars, with Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Needham as guest stars.[11]
