Blade Runner Origins #12 is the twelfth issue of Blade Runner Origins.
Plot[]
"Early in the 21st Century, THE TYRELL CORPORATION advanced Robot evolution into the NEXUS phase – a being virtually identical to a human – known as a REPLICANT. Replicants were used Off-world as slave labor, in the hazardous exploration and colonization of other planets. On Earth, Tyrell continued to experiment with further enhancements – because progress stops for no man.
LAPD DETECTIVE CAL MOREAUX has discovered that the suicide of DR. LYDIA KINE was actually an elaborate ruse constrcuted by the Tyrell Corp engineer so she could live freely as a Replicant named ASA. Dr. Kine's latest experiment – the escaped NEXUS 5 prototype – initially received the blame for her death, however Cal has discovered the truth – the identity of the Nexus 5's host consciousness: his sister, NIA MOREAUX.
More existentially advanced than the others, Nia has been "awakening" some Replicants in the slums of Los Angeles, causing them to leave their positions of servitude in pursuit of autonomy. Tyrell Corp executive ILORA STAHL has been charged with the Nexus 5's capture, and she will stop at nothing to protect her job and the company's brand in spite of growing chaos.
Two months have passed since Ilora launched an all-out attack against the SECTOR-6B slums and Cal has finally confronted his sister NIA MOREAUX, instigator of the Replicant uprising that lead to the Battle for Sector 6B..."
Two months after the retirement of Nia Moreaux, the LAPD have blamed Dr. Lydia Kine and her assistant Effie Koropey for the awakened replicant rebellion and many citizens have taken to murdering replicants, though the media does not label this as a genocide. Meanwhile, Asa and Divina have begun to shelter replicants from persecution. Running out of space for these replicants, Asa suggests they seek refuge in the forest where Lydia and her family used to camp.
The LAPD Blade Runner Unit is established, with Cal Moreaux as its inaugural member. At a press conference, Ilora Stahl assures the citizens of Los Angeles that alongside the Blade Runner Unit, Tyrell will take measures to ensure the safety with future replicants. After the conference, Stahl tells Moreaux that calls concerning rogue replicants will be handled by her office rather than the LAPD. As he leaves, Moreaux vows that he will take down Stahl.
Asa meets with Moreaux, who warns Asa that he is leaving a trail to his smuggling of replicant refugees. Further, Moreaux asks Asa to use Effie's research make a Voight-Kampff machine to test Blade Runner candidates to help ensure that they may someday become too empathetic for the job. Before they part ways, Cal tells Asa that if he sees him again, he will have to shoot him.
