Joe Turkel was a prolific American character actor. He is noted for his craggy Bronx looks and distinctive, penetrating voice.

He played the god-like Dr. Eldon Tyrell, the head of the Tyrell Corporation and designer of the replicants in the film Blade Runner and Blade Runner (video game).

His most famous roles are as Tyrell, and as Lloyd, the Overlook Bartender in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (1980). He has the distinction of being one of only two actors (the other being Philip Stone) to work with Kubrick as a credited character three times: in The Killing (1956, as Tiny), Paths of Glory (1957), a memorable turn as the doomed Private Arnaud and The Shining.

Other film appearances include a stint in Bert I. Gordon's The Boy and the Pirates (1960), as Abu the Genie, and the 1989 horror feature The Dark Side of the Moon.

Television appearances include Kojak, Tales from the Darkside and Miami Vice (in the episode Indian Wars). He is credited in several films as Joseph Turkel.
